ALCOGUM® L-200 Series thickeners were designed by Alco Chemical to meet rheology and water retention requirements for the paper and paperboard industries. These highly effective, high molecular weight polymeric thickeners allow formulators to increase the level of water retention and select the optimal low and high shear flow properties to optimize machine productivity and finished sheet quality. The ALCOGUM® L-200 Series meet today’s demanding coating trends. These trends include:
- High coater speeds requiring improved high shear rheology to maximize machine efficiency with latex and cobinderf formulations.
- Expanded LWC applications requiring controlled coating immobilization and structuring properties.
- Increased coating grade differentiation calling for a broader range of rheology and performance properties.
- Changes in equipment and automated coating kitchens requiring excellent shear stability properties.
- Increased use of film presses and metering size presses as LWC/ULWC coaters
The ALCOGUM® L-200 Series are available in several grades. Products may be selected with different levels and types of hydrophobic substitutions. Substituted polymers, referred to as associative thickeners, allow the formulator to select the combination of water retention, viscosity, and flow properties that maximize the operation’s productivity.
