Bulk Storage and Handling

AQUATREAT® DNM-30 is stable and can be safely stored for extended periods of time. Certain precautions should be observed for bulk storage:

Bulk storage should be in a covered tank, and air flow over the material should be minimized. Do not agitate with air; this causes oxidative degradation of the products.

AQUATREAT® DNM-30 will crystallize at temperatures near the freezing point of water. (see Cold Weather Handling).

AQUATREAT® DNM-30 is not flammable. However, its degradation products resulting from acidification are flammable and contaminated product may have flammable residue.

Special care should be taken to avoid contamination with chemicals reactive to AQUATREAT® DNM-30, such as quaternary compounds, strong oxidizing agents, low pH materials, etc. If AQUATREAT® DNM-30 is contaminated with acidic materials, the products may degrade to the substrate components. Should this occur, avoid using the material and contact Alco Chemical for advice.

Materials of Storage and Transfer

AQUATREAT® DNM-30 should be stored in type 304 or better stainless steel, fiberglass or plastic. Certain phenolic linings are acceptable for bulk storage. Storage in mild steel will discolor the product because of iron contamination. Copper, brass and aluminum should be avoided.

The guidelines above also apply to pipes, pumps and valves used in the transport of AQUATREAT® DNM-30.

Cold Weather Handling

AQUATREAT® DNM-30 may begin to form crystals as temperature drops to 30°F.

When AQUATREAT® DNM-30 is frozen and thawed, crystals may remain at the bottom of the container. These crystals may contain the two active ingredients. Quite often, the volume of crystals formed is small and will not markedly change the effectiveness of the liquid layer.

For best results, the crystals should be resolubilized, which can be done easily. Mild agitation and/or mild heat should be utilized. Air should not be applied to agitate the product, as this causes rapid degradation of the product.

If there is any question about proper treatment or disposition of the product, please contact Alco Chemical for advice.

Flammability

AQUATREAT® DNM-30 is an aqueous solution and is not flammable. It has no flash point. However, its degradation products from acidification are flammable and contaminated product may have flammable residue. If air is used to agitate the product, other nonflammable degradation products may occur.

Worker Protection

Causes eye and skin irritation. Do not get in eyes, on skin or on clothing. Wear goggles or face shield, rubber gloves and protective clothing (long sleeve shirt, long pants and boots) when handling. Harmful if swallowed. Avoid contamination of food and feed.

Statement of Practical Treatment

In case of contact, immediately flush eyes or skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. For eyes, call physician. Remove and wash contaminated clothing before reuse.

If swallowed, promptly drink a large quantity of milk, egg whites or gelatin solution; or, if these are not available, drink large quantities of water. Call a physician immediately.

Container Disposal

Plastic Containers: Triple rinse (or equivalent). Then offer for recycling or reconditioning, or puncture and dispose of in a sanitary landfill, or by incineration: or, if allowed by state and local authorities, by burning. If burned, stay out of smoke.

Consequences of Misuse

Use in air washers at higher than recommended rates or below pH 7 may carry an objectionable odor into the system. In paper, overdosing may tend to reduce brightness of finished stock. It is illegal to use more than recommended dosage in the sugar applications. Overdosing in other applications is generally not harmful, but using more than label limits is in violation of EPA Regulations.

Use with oxidizing substances will degrade the product. Use at low pH reduces half life and evolves substrate components of products.

If the product is introduced to potable water, contact EPA immediately.
